Friday's = Progress Update

Not much to mention this week financially, beginning a new 30 day cycle. I have surprised myself at how much positive movement I've made in 6 months just by being aware and creating a purpose for my money. I've been asked how much my progress differs while budgeting than it has in the few years before I started this journey, and I honestly don't know. And that is scary; it doesn't even compare. Update: After typing this and posting this morning, I got to my car and realized the pothole I smoked on the road last night resulted in a bent rim and a $72 repair. On the road again... I completed week 3 of the running training. The 3 workouts totaled around 8 miles. The first workout was done Sunday with a friend, and we slipped in a few extra miles to accommodate the morning conversations. A safe estimate for the week is 11. This was on the heels of playing in the state Men's softball tourney last Saturday, which we played 5 games. I'd like to focus on getting s

Slow Down

To pursue the future is to pursue a constantly retreating phantom, and the faster you chase it, the faster it runs ahead. This is why all affairs of civilization are rushed, why hardly anyone enjoys what he has, and is forever seeking more and more. Happiness will consist of hopes, promises, and assurances and not of solid and substantial realities. - Alan Watts As I've mentioned, I've been challenged to run a half marathon. To begin building a running foundation, I've been utilizing a couch to 10k training template. I know myself fairly well, and if I didn't use this as a guide I would come out of the gates too fast. With running, it would be a problem for me to push too hard early. When I agreed to this, I knew it would challenge me. I wanted to push myself to do something I didn't want to do, or knew I wouldn't enjoy (at least compared to other athletic endeavors). I wanted to step outside my comfort zone. One of the most challenging things I've rec

Friday's = Progress Update

Another 30 day cycle in the book, and things went very well. Grocery budget - nailed. Recreation/Entertainment - little overflow. Money to savings - little underhanded. Money to debt - perfect. Things have seemingly hit a nice groove. Here are the progress charts. I still have May 2020 in my sights for completion.  Frugal fitness has also been going well. Week 2 of following the couch to 10k workouts has been completed, and I moved 9 miles with those 3 workouts. I cycled 20 miles, and completed 1 resistance circuit. I would like to get that to 2 or 3, but I've been walking 9 holes in my windows of free time, so getting a little activity with that. I hope you're well, dear reader, that you're moving forward towards what is important to you, and that you have a great weekend.

Fridays = Progress Report

Another boring week financially, which is good, and I realize my non progress report posts have slowed down. No promises, but maybe I'll pick another day to try and post weekly. I've hit a few financial milestones this week that have reignited my excitement levels. I must say that using spreadsheets and graphs to track progress helps me visualize a successful future. Minimal fitness was a bit slow this week - I cycled 35 miles, played 3 softball games Sunday in some solid heat, and walked a few miles. In regards to fitness, I have recently been challenged to run a half marathon next year. 93% of me wanted to say hell no, but 2% of me was whispering in my ear to challenge myself. The other 5% was crying, in a fetal position, while hiding in a dark closet. I'm in, though. We are starting another weight loss challenge here at work, and if I'm successful this time around, my weight will be at a low for me as an adult - around 211. If I do run a half, I'd like to
